lesson plan on trigonometry

SUBJECT: MATHEMATICS          CLASS: X                 SECTION: (A+B)
SYLLABUS TO BE COVERED FROM: 16/11/2015 TO 30/11/2015
TOPIC: Height and Distances (Application of Trigonometry)
CONTENT: The aim of the topic is to develop the fallowing concept about the Trigonometry.
·       Introduction of trigonometry based on the concept learnt in the previous year  and bridging the gap if necessary
·       Geometrical interpretation of trigonometric ratios
·       Etymology of Trigonometry.
·       Linking the concept of trigonometry and geometry to discover values of multiple angles
·       Concept of Height and distance with special reference  to the Pythagoras triangle and height as perpendicular where as base as distance.
·       Drawing the figure and transfer the data of the word problem into a known Pythagorean triangle, location of angle and its corresponding sides.
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES:   pupils will be made to know about
·        New terms found in the topic.
·       To read the problem, analyze critically and transform the data as right angled triangle then find the solution to the given words problem.
·       To develop the skill of transforming the given statement into right angled triangle hence apply the concept of trigonometry to solve the day to day life problems as and when they come across .
·       Definition of angle of elevation, and angle of depression,
·       To develop the skill of identifying reference angle, object and its angle of elevation/angle of depression.
TEACHING AIDS TO BE USED:
To reinforce the concept for ever in the pupil’s mind the fallowing teaching aids can used.
·       A chart of right angled triangle, highlighting such as Base, opposite side and Hypotenuse to reinforce the concept for ever among young children.
·       Interpret the concept of angle of elevation Geometrically and analyze the data with statement hence find the solution to the given problem
·       Interpret the concept of angle of Depression  Geometrically and analyze the data with statement, hence find the solution to the given problem
·        Power point presentation to be shown in smart room.

INNOVATIVE  PRACTICE TO BE USED

Pupils will be divided into sub groups of four members in each group and question on each concepts learnt in the above topic has to be supplied after the completion of topic instructed the pupils to solve by discussion and to come out with solution.

LABORATORY ACTIVITY TO BE CONDUCTED

Each four members group of pupil were instructed to discuss the problem assigned and perform the activity to get more enthusiasm in teaching learning process for ever.
·       To  find the height of a building/water tank/tower /electric pole /top of the tall tree, using clinometer
·       To  list out figures  of day to day life situation based on the concept of angle elevation identify the reference  angle , opposite side and base,
·       To list out every day examples to be used for angle of elevation /depression.
·

PROJECT TO BE INITIATED

1)    To study the distance between different of a geometrical figures when it is displaced/rotated. Enhance the familiarity with coordinate geometry.

2)    Representation of Golden quadrilateral plan of action from India map  and its location in coordinate axis and hence study the cost of expenditure for construction of Golden quadrilateral connecting the important cities of India (cross curricular project linking the concept of literature , English, Social science, science Mathematics. And special reference to the Mines, and minerals available around the Golden quadrilateral,)

3)    Each group of pupils will directed to prepare power point presentation on the topic Coordinate Geometry and its use in day to day life situation.

ASSIGNMENT/HOME WORK TO BE GIVEN

To have thorough understanding of knowledge about the topic and supplement the concept learnt in the class room the fallowing methods can be adopted.
·       Problems assigned by the teacher
·       Problems other than text book.
·       Problems collected from reference book
·       Problems asked in CBSE sample papers

EXPECTED BEHAVIORAL OUTCOME OF THE TOPIC
After the rigorous practice and successful completion of the topic pupils able to
Ø Recall the concept learnt in the previous years
Ø Understand the different methods to solve problems of  Coordinate Geometry.
Ø Apply the knowledge to solve problems of daily life situation as and when they come across.
Ø To link the concept to higher class problems
Ø  To develop the spirit of solving the problems based on the HOTS.
